Hoffmann Group Connected Tools (HCT) connects Bluetooth-capable GARANT HCT tools using a smartphone app.

‘Hoffmann Group Connected Tools’ receives German Innovation Award 2021

18 May 2021

Hoffmann Group Connected Tools (HCT) continues to drive digitalisation in the tooling sector. Hoffmann Group’s ongoing work in the field has now gained them the coveted German Innovation Award 2021. The open HCT platform for Bluetooth®-capable tools won over the jury with its UX-centred design philosophy and innovative smartphone app. Hoffmann Group Connected Tools adds value through their simple, wireless transmission of measurement data directly to PC or the HCT smartphone app. The Hoffmann Group Connected Tools family currently includes the GARANT HCT digital vernier callipers, HCT depth gauges and the electronic GARANT HCT torque/rotational angle wrenches. The free HCT smartphone app is available for download from the App Store or Google Play.

At its core, Hoffmann Group Connected Tools consists of the HCT smartphone app, which connects wirelessly to HCT tools to record, save and manage measurement data via Bluetooth. This eliminates the errors made when manually transferring data and helps make quality management easier and turning measurement data logging into a walk in the park. For further processing, the measurement values can be exported in CSV format to any PC app like Excel or Word together with the tool's serial number, date of measurement, UOM and all relevant settings. The users can even configure HCT tools to send the measurement values straight to a PC app like Excel or Word rather than sending them to the smartphone app. This does not require any software to be installed.

In addition, the app can contribute significantly to repetition accuracy as measurement parameters, target values and permissible tolerance limits can be stored in the app. Once configured, the work process will always be performed identically, with the worker receiving alerts, for example when permissible measurement values are exceeded. The cross-manufacturer openness of the HCT platform is also attractive for the user. At present, measurement tools by Sylvac SA and Bowers Group can be used through the app alongside GARANT HCT tools. Other renowned manufacturers have already expressed interest in integrating their products into the HCT app.

With its HCT platform Hoffmann Group emerged as ‘Winner’ in the German Innovation Award’s category ‘Excellence in Business to Business – Information technologies | Industry Specific and Service Software’. The German Innovation Award recognises cross-industry products and solutions that distinguish themselves from contemporary solutions especially through their UX design and added value.
